2 Corinthians 13:5 (New International Version) 5Examine yourselves to see whether you are in the faith; test yourselves. Do you not realize
that Christ Jesus is in you—unless, of course, you fail the test? Revelation 3:14-22 (New International
Version)To the Church in Laodicea 14"To the angel of the church in Laodicea write: These
are the words of the Amen, the faithful and true witness, the ruler of God's creation. 15I know your deeds, that you are neither cold nor hot. I wish you were either one or the other!
16So, because you are lukewarm—neither hot nor cold—I
am about to spit you out of my mouth. 17You say, 'I am
rich; I have acquired wealth and do not need a thing.' But you do not realize that you are wretched, pitiful, poor, blind
and naked. 18I counsel you to buy from me gold refined
in the fire, so you can become rich; and white clothes to wear, so you can cover your shameful nakedness; and salve to put
on your eyes, so you can see. 19Those whom I love I rebuke
and discipline. So be earnest, and repent. 20Here I am!
I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with him, and he with me.
21To him who overcomes, I will give the right to sit with
me on my throne, just as I overcame and sat down with my Father on his throne. 22He
who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches."Matthew
11:2-3 (New International Version) 2When John heard in prison what Christ was doing, he sent his disciples 3to ask him, "Are you the one who was to come, or should we expect someone else?" Matthew
3:13-17 (New International Version)The Baptism of Jesus 13Then Jesus came from Galilee to the Jordan to be baptized
by John. 14But John tried to deter him, saying, "I
need to be baptized by you, and do you come to me?" 15Jesus
replied, "Let it be so now; it is proper for us to do this to fulfill all righteousness." Then John consented. 16As soon as Jesus was baptized, he went up out of the water.
At that moment heaven was opened, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and lighting on him. 17And a voice from heaven said, "This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased." Luke
1:39-44 (New International Version)Mary Visits Elizabeth 39At that time Mary got ready and hurried to a town in the hill
country of Judea, 40where she entered Zechariah's home
and greeted Elizabeth. 41When Elizabeth heard Mary's greeting,
the baby leaped in her womb, and Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit. 42In
a loud voice she exclaimed: "Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the child you will bear! 43But why am I so favored, that the mother of my Lord should come to me? 44As soon as the sound of your greeting reached my ears, the baby in my womb leaped for joy. Matthew
11:4-6 (New International Version) 4Jesus replied, "Go back and report to John what you hear and see: 5The blind receive sight, the lame walk, those who have leprosyare cured, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, and the good news is preached to the poor. 6Blessed is the man who does not fall away on account of me." Matthew
14:3-4 (New International Version) 3Now Herod had arrested John and bound him and put him in prison because of Herodias, his brother
Philip's wife, 4for John had been saying to him: "It
is not lawful for you to have her." Matthew 26:33-35 (New International Version) 33Peter replied, "Even if all fall away on account of you,
I never will." 34"I tell you the
truth," Jesus answered, "this very night, before the rooster crows, you will disown me three times." 35But Peter declared, "Even if I have to die with you,
I will never disown you." And all the other disciples said the same. Matthew 26:69-74 (New International
Version)Peter Disowns Jesus 69Now Peter was sitting out in the courtyard, and a servant girl came to him. "You also
were with Jesus of Galilee," she said. 70But
he denied it before them all. "I don't know what you're talking about," he said. 71Then he went out to the gateway, where another girl saw him and said to the people there,
"This fellow was with Jesus of Nazareth." 72He
denied it again, with an oath: "I don't know the man!" 73After
a little while, those standing there went up to Peter and said, "Surely you are one of them, for your accent gives you
away." 74Then he began to call down curses
on himself and he swore to them, "I don't know the man!" Matthew 26:75 (New International Version) Immediately a rooster crowed. 75Then
Peter remembered the word Jesus had spoken: "Before the rooster crows, you will disown me three times." And he went
outside and wept bitterly. Acts 5:27-33 (New International Version) 27Having brought the apostles, they made them appear before
the Sanhedrin to be questioned by the high priest. 28"We
gave you strict orders not to teach in this name," he said. "Yet you have filled Jerusalem with your teaching and
are determined to make us guilty of this man's blood." 29Peter
and the other apostles replied: "We must obey God rather than men! 30The
God of our fathers raised Jesus from the dead—whom you had killed by hanging him on a tree. 31God exalted him to his own right hand as Prince and Savior that he might give repentance
and forgiveness of sins to Israel. 32We are witnesses of
these things, and so is the Holy Spirit, whom God has given to those who obey him." 33When they heard this, they were furious and wanted to put them to death. Acts
6:15 (New International Version) 15All who were sitting in the Sanhedrin looked intently at Stephen, and they saw that his face
was like the face of an angel. Acts 7:54-60 (New International Version)The
Stoning of Stephen 54When they heard this, they
were furious and gnashed their teeth at him. 55But Stephen,
full of the Holy Spirit, looked up to heaven and saw the glory of God, and Jesus standing at the right hand of God. 56"Look," he said, "I see heaven open and the Son of Man standing at the right
hand of God." 57At this they covered their
ears and, yelling at the top of their voices, they all rushed at him, 58dragged
him out of the city and began to stone him. Meanwhile, the witnesses laid their clothes at the feet of a young man named Saul.
59While they were stoning him, Stephen prayed,
"Lord Jesus, receive my spirit." 60Then he fell
on his knees and cried out, "Lord, do not hold this sin against them." When he had said this, he fell asleep. Hebrews
11:32-38 (New International Version) 32And what more shall I say? I do not have time to tell about Gideon, Barak, Samson, Jephthah,
David, Samuel and the prophets, 33who through faith conquered
kingdoms, administered justice, and gained what was promised; who shut the mouths of lions, 34quenched the fury of the flames, and escaped the edge of the sword; whose weakness was turned
to strength; and who became powerful in battle and routed foreign armies. 35Women
received back their dead, raised to life again. Others were tortured and refused to be released, so that they might gain a
better resurrection. 36Some faced jeers and flogging, while
still others were chained and put in prison. 37They were
stoned; they were sawed in two; they were put to death by the sword. They went about in sheepskins
and goatskins, destitute, persecuted and mistreated— 38the
world was not worthy of them. They wandered in deserts and mountains, and in caves and holes in the ground.
