Missions
Little Chapel Church is actively involved in foreign missions. The missions we support are
as follows --
Botswana - Christopher Sichilima and Anthony Mubanga are two pastors we have helped support in church planting in Botswana.
Both men have visited Little Chapel and people from our church have taken mission trips to Botswana.
Israel - We are sending monthly support to two places in Israel. The Jerusalem Support Center is affiliated with the International
Christian Embassy, which some of our congregation has worked with. The Jerusalem Support Center is a ministry of helps.
We are sending support money there to help with bus and food vouchers. We also send monthly support to a Messianic church
where some members of our congregation visited while on a mission trip to Israel.
Jamaica - This
was our first foreign mission. In the mid-1970's an orphanage was started in Jamaica by Charles and Ernestine Benson.
The Bensons are former residents of this area and had connections with Little Chapel. Our church took numerous mission
trips to Jamaica while the home was under their direction. The Bensons retired in 2004 and the home was taken over by
the Assemblies of God and the orphanage renamed, "New Vision City of Refuge." It is currently home to about
25 children. We continue to send monthly support money there. The manager of this home, Stuart Brown, spoke at
Little Chapel in 2008.
Kenya - Bishop Titus Khamala of Cornerstone Gospel Ministries is one of the key Christians in Kenya. We have helped support
an orphanage that he started and are now helping with a school that he and his wife are starting. Titus has been active
in training new pastors and we give part of our donations for him to buy them Bibles and bicycles. We have also helped
purchase milk cows for them. Titus has visited our church and some of our people have visited him in Kenya. Harrison Oulo of Kenya has visited our church twice and his wife accompanied
him on his last visit. They have an active ministry and have also taken in and adopted several orphaned children.
Our church has donated funds for them to build a larger home. We have also donated money on occasion to Commit Ministries
to help support students in Kenya and to Kathy Watson of Eldorado who is working at a children’s center in Kenya.
Nicaragua - Several years ago LCC took
a medical mission trip to Honduras. The man who served as our interpreter there was a Nicaraguan named Alberto Williamson.
Through this and subsequent meetings a friendship and relationship were formed. For the last few years we have sent
money to Alberto to fund several feeding centers for children and also some money for his personal support. Our church
has taken mission trips there and Alberto has also visited Little Chapel a few times.
Senegal – Mark and Suzanne of Harrisburg, Illinois began a mission in Senegal, Africa a few years ago and we have helped support
a children’s center there for orphans and women who were kicked out of their Muslim families because they had converted
to Christianity. Mark and Suzanne are no longer actively involved with the Center, but are now evangelizing and helping
plant churches in some of the villages of Senegal.
Zimbabwe - Joe and Donna Roberts of our church have a ministry named, "Africa Ablaze,"
and they are involved with Zimbabwe, Botswana, Malawi, and the Congo. We are making monthly donations to help support
several feeding stations in Zimbabwe and in 2008 we have financed the digging of two water wells there.
Also: We send
monthly support to a local couple who have built a center for orphans and women kicked out of their Muslim families because
they converted to Christianity. Specific information provided upon request.
China - We provide occasional support
to Greg Crawford of Commit Ministries, which is active in helping the underground church in China.
India - John Milton and his wife, V. Pushpaveni, have an active ministry in India with 52 pastors under
them. This is a poverty stricken area and our donations have gone towards purchasing food for the pastors and some bicycles.
Several of our people visited there in 2008. Additionally,
we have donated to Only Believe Ministries to finance the digging of a well for an orphanage in India. We also sent
money to replace some fishing boats lost in the Tsunami (twenty-four of these fishermen have since become Christians).
Slovakia - We provide occasional support to Bevin and Laura Stein of, "The Father's Heart"
ministry in Slovakia. They work with disadvantaged and orphan children. They have visited our church.
In addition to our foreign missions we are involved with several things in the United
States. Our youth groups have
done mission work in Chicago, Nashville, Louisiana, and various other places over the past several years. Our church
helps supports several local ministries - - The Choisser Soup Kitchen in Eldorado, Southeastern Pregnancy Resource Center
in Harrisburg, The Christian Community Compassion Center in Harrisburg, supplies for the migrant work camp in Cobden, food
for the Lighthouse Shelter in Marion, donations to the Christian Life Center in Evansville, and supplies for the Southern
Illinois Center for Independent Living in Harrisburg.
